WIAA Division 2 Football Championship preview

November 14, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Division 2 will have a brand new WIAA State High School Football champion in 2006.  Ashwaubenon beat Waunakee 19-0 last season.  This year, Brookfield Central squares off against Franklin in the D-2 Championship game on Friday at 1pm at Camp Randall Stadium.

Brookfield Central is making its third State title game appearance.  The Lancers finished runner-up in each of their two previous appearances in 1999 and 2002.  They are the champions of the Greater Metro Conference and earned the berth in the title game by defeating Ashwaubenon 32-12 in a Level 4 battle.  The Lancers are averaging almost 36 points a game throughout the playoffs.

Franklin will appear in its first championship game.  The Sabres won the Southeast Conference championship and outscored opponents by an average of 35-12 this year.  They defeated Monona Grove 18-7 in the semifinal to gain the berth in the championship game.
