Deadline approaching for changes to Part D coverage

December 28, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Time is running out for Medicare recipients considering a change in their Part D prescription drug benefits. Wisconsinites eligible for Medicare only have until the end of this week to make changes to their prescription drug plans for 2007.

Kim Wadas handles Part D legal affairs for the Wisconsin Coalition of Aging Groups. She says Medicare recipients can easily make changes to their benefits, if they want to. They just need to consider any changes to their coverage before December 31st.

Wadas says those considering different coverage should ask some basic questions about what plans can offer them. She says drug premiums and the types of prescriptions covered by the plan are among the two key issues to consider. If you plan to keep the same coverage, Wadas says you don't have to do anything.

Medicare participants with questions can call 1-800-MEDICARE, 1-866-456-8211, or contact their local health department.
