Father of Packers' punter, Ryan, dies of cancer

December 1, 2006 By WRN Contributor

Green Bay Packer punter Jon Ryan lost his father to cancer early this morning.  His father Bob Ryan had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in August.

Ryan will talk to family members before determining whether he will punt for the Packers against the New York Jets on Sunday.  If Ryan doesn't play, coach Mike McCarthy said third-string quarterback Ingle Martin would serve as the teams punter.  Martin punted in practice this week and was a punter at Furman University.

Jon Ryan had visited his father in Canada earlier this week when it became clear Bob Ryan would pass away at any time.
