Avery trial: Halbach cousin testifies to finding vehicle

February 13, 2007 By WRN Contributor

A second cousin of Teresa Halbach told jurors in the Steven Avery murder trail how she found Halbach's Toyota Rav-4 at the Avery salvage lot near Mishicot.

Pam Sturm took the stand Tuesday in the second day of testimony, telling prosecutor Ken Kratz that she received permission to search the Avery property on Saturday, November 5th of 2005. Sturm said she and daughter Nikole combed the 40-acre salvage lot until she found the S-U-V

Avery is accused of murdering Halbach on Halloween of 2005. Sturm said she called Calumet County sheriff Jerry Pagel right away, and read the S-U-V's VIN number to investigator Mark Wiegert. That phone call was played for the jury. Sturm said they guarded the vehicle until Calumet County authorities arrived, and no one, including Manitowoc County sheriff's deputies, touched the S-U-V.
