Jurors chosen for Avery trial

February 9, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The jury selection process for the trial of Steven Avery, expected to last a couple of days, instead required nearly a week. A jury has now been seated for the trial; eight women and eight men selected from a jury pool of thirty. The jurors will be taken from Manitowoc to Calumet County, where opening arguments are expected to begin on Monday. Avery is charged with first degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, false imprisonment, and being a felon in possession of a firearm, in connection with the 2005 disappearance and death of 25 year old Teresa Halbach . Halbach's remains were found at the Avery salvage yard.

Testimony in the trial is expected to take up to six weeks, at the conclusion of which four of the sixteen jurors will be chosen as alternates. The jury will not be sequestered. [ WOMT 's Fred Barry submitted this report]
