Prosecution lays out case against Avery

February 12, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Opening statements got underway Monday morning in the murder trial of Steven Avery. Special Prosecutor Ken Kratz spent about two hours laying out the state's case against Avery, who is accused of murdering Teresa Halbach in October of 2005. Kratz told the jury about blood found in Halbach's SUV, which was found under brush in the Avery family Salvage yard. DNA testing showed both Halbach's and Avery's blood was found in the vehicle.

Kratz also talked about a female tibia bone found in a burn pit on the property. Tissue remain on the bone was tested for DNA, which showed it was Halbach's.

The defense is expected to present its opening arguments this afternoon. The prosecution may also call its first witness.
