State Wrestling Championships begin today

The 64th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual Wrestling Championships begin their 3-day run today at the Kohl Center. 

Division 1 preliminaries start at 3:30pm, Division 2 & 3 preliminaries start at 5:45pm and the Division 1 quarterfinals start at 8pm tonight.

Arrowhead and Stoughton has qualified the most wrestlers to the field in Division 1 with eight, and Kaukauna and Tomah are next in line with seven.  Sheboygan Fanns has qualified the most wrestlers in division 2 with eight.  Ellsworth has the second-most qualifers with seven.  In Division 3, Iowa-Grant, Mineral Point and Peshtigo have the distinction of having the most qualifiers with six.

Mineral Point has produced the most individual championships with 42.  Stoughton has claimed 40 individual titles, and Milwaukee South is next with 39.  There are a total of 18 champions from last years tournament returning to the field this year.  There are 21 wrestlers who enter the State Tournament this weekend undefeated.

This year's tournament format and schedule has been altered from previous tournaments to accomodate a wrestleback for a true third and fifth-place finisher in each dividion.
