Senate Republicans attempted Tuesday to block the confirmation of the Department of Transportation Secretary's second term in the position. Senate Republican leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) wanted the nomination sent back to a committee, so members could question Secretary Busalacchi about tax dispute work done for indicted businessman Dennis Troha under his watch. The Juneau Republican says it may be the best way to answer many of the questions lawmakers have about the case.
Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson (D-Beloit) accused Republicans of causing political mischief. The Beloit Democrat says the move is simply meant to bash one of the Governor's appointees.
Senator Mike Ellis (R-Neenah) cited concerns that Busalacchi moved to help a major donor to the Governor. Ellis says Troha benefited from help that the average Wisconsin citizen can't get.
A vote to refer the nomination back to committee failed, and Busalacchi was confirmed on a 27 to 6 vote.
