Kind wants phy ed in NCLB

March 1, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Remember physical education? Too many of today's kids aren't getting it. Wisconsin Congressman Ron Kind proposes making phy ed part of No Child Left Behind. No Child Left Behind is up for reauthorization this year. Democrat Kind and Tennessee Republican Zach Wamp want that physical education component included, and they've received the support of fitness advocate Richard Simmons.

Kind said that while many school districts in Wisconsin are doing a good job offering phy ed, others aren't offering anything. The bill from Kind and Wamp would amend No Child Left Behind to provide a national guideline for minimum standards for health and fitness curriculum.
