Marquette faces St. John's in Big East opener

March 7, 2007 By WRN Contributor

20th ranked Marquette opens play in the Big East Conference opener tonight at Madison Square Garden in New York against St. John's (16-14).

This will be Marquette's first trip to Madison Square Garden this season and since that's St. John's home court, coach Tom Crean said it presents a problem.

Marquette could also be without the Big East's Defensive Player of the Year, Jerel McNeal, who sat out the final regular season game with a right thumb injury.  If he can't play, the Golden Eagles will have to rely heavily on freshman guard David Cubillan .  Cubillan played a big role in Marquette's win over Pittsburgh on Saturday when he scored 20 points.

Marquette (23-8, 10-6 Big East) has likely already done enough to secure a spot in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
