State gets federal help fighting online sexual predators

March 23, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The state Attorney General says a federal initiative could help protect more children from online sex predators. Project Safe Childhood is aimed at protecting kids from sexual predators who use the Internet to reach their victims. Attorney General JB Van Hollen says the state is teaming up with federal officials to help expand current efforts. He says that will allow for greater cooperation on all levels in the fight against online predators.

The federal campaign will also help the state enhance its law enforcement and public education efforts. Van Hollen says that includes bringing educational programs in to schools and developing public service announcements.

The Attorney General says Project Safe Childhood will help the state meet its goals of reducing the amount of sexual predators using the Internet to target children. The state has already received about $400,000 in federal funding under the initiative.
