Assembly Republicans pledge to lower tax burden

April 17, 2007 By WRN Contributor

As Wisconsinites work to get their taxes in, Assembly Republicans are vowing to lighten the load. Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem) says Wisconsin taxpayers will have to work until May 2nd to pay off their taxes, and the Governor's budget could only extend that date next year. Huebsch says that's too high, and something must be done to bring it down.

The West Salem Republican says the Governor's budget is too expensive for Wisconsin families, costing an average of $536 per person in additional taxes.

Huebsch says Republicans are already working on a number of proposals to lower the tax burden. That will include trying to limit any tax increases and new programs included in Governor Doyle's budget. Republicans also want to eliminate the estate tax and establish a property tax freeze.
