Wisconsin middle school students are getting a chance to learn more about the Wisconsin Covenant program. Governor Jim Doyle and the First Lady used a teleconference on Monday to talk about the program with 8th grade students from across the state. Doyle says he wants to make sure every student in the state knows that a college education can be made available.
Doyle says members of the class of 2011 who sign the Covenant will be guaranteed a place in the UW system or at a Wisconsin technical college, if they hold up their end of the deal. The pledge requires students to graduate high school, maintain a 'B' average, be a good citizen, and take the courses needed to qualify for higher education. Students will have a chance to sign the Covenant on May 10th, as part of a statewide event.
The Governor and First Lady Jessica Doyle hosted teleconferences out of Monona and Milwaukee on Monday, speaking with students in those two cities, along with kids in Neenah, Superior, Wausau, Beloit, Kenosha, and Racine.
