Study shows positive impact of technical colleges

April 30, 2007 By WRN Contributor

A new study touts the economic benefits of state technical colleges. The report from the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance shows tech colleges have a nearly $7 billion annual impact on the state's economy.

Researcher Dale Knapp says they're also a big cost to taxpayers. He points to the nearly $360 million in state and local taxes that go towards those institutions. But, Knapp says graduates from tech colleges will net a return for the state of about $6 for every $1 invested.

The report was conducted at the request of the state college system.
