Brewers sweep Nationals with 3-1 win

May 9, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Geoff Jenkins homered and broke a 1-1 tie in the 8th with a run scoring single to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 3-1 win over the Washington Nationals and a sweep of their 3-game series at Miller Park.

The Brewers have won 6-straight and 10 of their last 11.  They finished off a 9-1 homestand and will head to New York to face the Mets this weekend.  The Brewers will play 13 of their next 16 games away from Miller Park.

Derrick Turnbow picked up the win, working a scoreless 8th, and Francisco Cordero pitched the 9th for his 15th save in 15 chances.  It's also the fifth straight day that Cordero has taken the mound in the 9th to save a game for the Brewers.

The loss for the Nationals is their 8th in a row.  Brewers shortstop J-J Hardy saw his 19 game hitting streak come to an end, but Milwaukee improved its Major League best record to 24-10.
