Budget writing Republicans on Tursday shot down a Jim Doyle renewable energy plan. Doyle wanted to use $30 million over the next two years to pay for grants and loans to further develop renewable energy resources. Republicans including Representative Scott Suder opposed the new spending. Democrat, Senator Bob Jauch, said the state could end up spending more money over the long haul, to try to compete with neighboring Iowa. Because this item was for increased spending, the eight Republicans on the sixteen member committee were able to keep it out of the budget.
