Republican legislative leaders vow to win back majority

May 12, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Wisconsin's Republican legislative leaders say they are focused regaining the majority in both houses.

After losing the Republican majority in the State Senate during the last election, Senate Minority leader Scott Fitzgerald (R-Juneau) says the GOP must be willing to fight.  The Juneau Republican says the party must work reign in spending, lower taxes, and reduce the size of state government.

Fitzgerald also told delegates at the state Republican convention that they must protect the seats they still hold from Democrats, while regaining those they lost.  He says the Democrats are already looking at three seats in the Senate that they want to target in the next election.

Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch (R-West Salem) echoed Fitzgerald's dedication to reestablishing Republican control of both chambers.  He says there is no more important time for Republicans to be in control of the state legislature.  Huebsch says Republicans can work together to bring about a revolution in state government.
