State democratic party chief won't step down

May 24, 2007 By WRN Contributor

State Democratic Party Chairman Joe Wineke says he won't step down and he won't stop lobbying for AT&T.

Democratic organizations in Wood and Eau Claire Counties are on record calling for Wineke to either step down or stop lobbying. Democrats in La Crosse have sent a letter of displeasure over his new job.

Katy Phillips is the Democratic Chair in Eau Claire County and says the integrity of the party is brought into question by Wineke's lobbying efforts. She also says it raises conflict of interest questions.

Wineke says he's just trying to make a living and besides he says Phillips is upset because she opposes the cable TV competition bill which he's now lobbying for on behalf of AT&T.
