May 14, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will host an NCAA Division III baseball regional for a second straight season.  Tournament play starts Wednesday at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids.

The regional winners will advance to the NCAA Division 3 College World Series May 25-29 at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Stevens Point opens against sixth-seeded St. Scholastica (36-6) at noon on Wednesday.  Second seeded St. Thomas (32-10) faces 5th seeded UW-Oshkosh (32-10) at 3:30pm and 3rd-seeded Ripon College (21-13) faces fourth-seeded St. Olaf (31-8) at 7pm.

UW-Oshkosh received one of the 14 at-large bids up for grabs after finishing second to Stevens Point in the WIAC conference tournament, but won the regular season title.

Ripon won the Midwest Conference tournament title, knocking off the top seed, St. Norbert College 6-5 on Saturday.

Carthage College is the fourth state team in the regional field.  The Red Men are 32-11 on the season after winning the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.  Carthage is a third seed and will face fourth seeded Washington University of St. Louis at Illinois Wesleyan.
