Brewers miss chances early, fall to Cubs

June 5, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The Milwaukee Brewers failed to take advantage of several opportunities early and fell to the Chicago Cubs 7-2 at Miller Park.

With the Brewers leading 2-1 in the 7th, the Cubs scored 5-times to break things open.  Alfonso Soriano delivered the big blow, a 3-run homer in the 7th off of Matt Wise.  Soriano had 5-hits for the Cubs.

The Brewers loaded the bases with one out in the first inning and no outs in the second but managed to score just one run.  That, more then anything led to the Brewers demise.

Dave Bush (3-6) suffered the loss, but deserved a better fate.  He left in the 7th with the game tied at 2, but the bullpen failed to hold on for him.

Prince Fielder homered for the Brewers, his league leading 20th of the season.  Game 2 of the series is tonight.

** Prince Fielder was named the National League's Player of the Month for May.  Fielder hit .321 with a club record 13-homers in May, driving in 28 runs.  He's the first Brewer to win that award since Jeromy Burnitz did it in June of 1999
