Fielder increases his lead in 1st base all-star balloting

June 26, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder has increased his lead over St. Louis Cardinal Albert Pujols by a sizeable margin.

A week ago, Fielder led Pujols by about 50,000 votes.  In Monday's final update from Major League Baseball, Fielder had 1,453,716 votes, compared with 1,198,288 for Pujols.  Dodger Nomar Garciaparra is third with 1,011,372 votes.

Fielder's vote total is also third in the National League trailing only Carlos Beltran of the New York Mets (1,698,217) and Ken Griffey Jr. of Cincinnati (1,640,575).

In-stadium voting has wrapped up, but fans can still vote on-line at MLB.com and all 30 club web sites through Thursday.

The elected starters and reserves will be announced on Sunday.  No Brewer has been elected by the fans to the All-Star game since 1988, when Paul Molitor finished first in the balloting at second base.
