Phoenix rising: Chrysler will retool Kenosha plant

June 13, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Chrysler's Kenosha engine plant will build a line of new Phoenix engines. Wednesday's announcement by Governor Jim Doyle ends months of specualtion about the automaker in Kenosha. Doyle said the $450 investment by DaimlerChrysler shows what can happen when the public and private sectors work together, and that the state has shown it has the best environment for companies to thrive. Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian said the announcement means the retention of good paying jobs. When Phoenix production begins in 2011, the workforce at the plant will be about 700, down from the current 850. The process of retooling the plant will begin in 2010.
