Sheets wins 5th straight, improves to 9-3

June 26, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Ben Sheets didn't have his good stuff last night, but it was still good enough to pitch the Milwaukee Brewers to a 6-1 win over the Houston Astros at Miller Park.

Sheets allowed just 1-run and 5-hits in six innings of work.  He improved to 9-3 and lowered his ERA to 3.09.  It's his 5th straight win, which tied a career high.  Sheets also won 5-straight in his rookie season, back in 2001.

J.J. Hardy returned to the lineup at shortstop and lined his 18th home run of the season in the 1st-inning.  Prince Fielder clubbed his league leading 27th homer and Corey Hart extended his career-high hitting streak to 12-straight games with a run scoring single.

Houston's only run came on former Brewer Carlos Lee's solo home run in the sixth.

Carlos Villanueva, Derrick Turnbow and Chris Spurling closed out the win.  The Brewers have now won 10 of their last 12 games.  Claudio Vargas pitches game two of the series for the Brewers tonight against Houston's Wandy Rodriguez.
