Wisconsin farmers applaud new energy bill

June 23, 2007 By WRN Contributor

An energy bill passed by the US Senate this week is called a big win for Wisconsin farmers.

The legislation requires huge increase in ethanol production. Jeff Lyon with the Wisconsin Farm Bureau says that's good news for the state. He says corn growers will enjoy the increased demand and prices that come with the requirement.

The bill requires 36 billion gallons of ethanol to be produced by 2022. That's five times the current amount being made annually.

The legislation still needs action from the US House.
