July 5, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Eduardo Romero has the early lead at the 28th U.S. Senior Open at Whistling Straits in Haven, WI.  Starting on the back 9, Romero fired a 4-under par 32 and has a 1-shot lead on Kirk Hanefeld, who negotiated the back 9 at 3-under par.

Among other notables, D.A. Weibring and Curtis Strange are at 2-under par, still playing their first 9.  Oconomowoc's Jim Rollefson is at even par through 5.  Jay Haas is 1 over through 9 and Hale Irwin is 3 over through 9.
