Assembly Democrats patient on state budget wait

July 5, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Majority Republicans in the Assembly resumed work Thursday on the state budget, while Democrats cooled their heels.

Republicans are promising to come up with a budget that doesn't include any tax increases. That includes cutting a new tax on big oil that was proposed by the Governor and approved by Senate Democrats. Assembly Minority Leader Jim Kreuser says the Republicans are simply supporting special interests by removing tax hikes from the budget. He believes the oil tax simply makes companies that have pulled in record profits pay for transportation projects in Wisconsin.

Kreuser suspects the GOP budget will not raise any state taxes, but would likely result in local property taxes going up.
