Flash flooding damage in southwestern Wisconsin

July 18, 2007 By WRN Contributor

An overnight storm system dumps several inches of rain on southwestern Wisconsin causing some serious flash flooding.

There's a local state of emergency in the village of Bagley in Grant County. That means the mutual aid system is available in case the village needs assistance from other emergency responders in the area.

Lori Getter, with the state Emergency Management Office, says state aid hasn't been requested yet but a team is on the way just in case.

Six to eight inches of rain fell overnight overwhelming drainage areas and causing widespread damage. Getter says the village has told her there are about a hundred homes with first floor flooding. Many of them mobile homes and cottages. Another hundred homes have sewer back-ups.

Other reports say propane tanks have been seen floating in the Mississippi River. There is some street flooding in Prairie du Chien. But no reports of injuries anywhere in the area.

More rain is expected later today.
