Madison police shoot man armed with fake gun

July 16, 2007 By WRN Contributor

A fake gun leads to a real shooting in Madison on Sunday night, killing a 48-year-old man. Police say Ronald Brandon of Madison pointed a replica gun at police just after 6 PM at his residence on Camden Road.

Chief Noble Wray says they were actually called to the scene by the shooter, pretending to be someone else. Wray says the caller gave dispatchers a description of the man, saying he was waving a gun at a neighbor. Police investigating the shooting say the evidence shows the caller was the suspect.

Asked whether this was suicide by cop, Wray says it could be. Multiple shots were fired at the scene, but Wray would not say how many or if Brandon fired his weapon at all.

Two Madison officers are on routine administrative review while the DA and police investigate.
