Senator thanks members for support following tragedy

July 17, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Senator Dave Hansen State Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay) briefly spoke to his colleagues on the floor Tuesday morning. Hansen thanked members for their support, following the death of his grand daughter, Elliana Zaidel. The toddler was just a few days away from her second birthday, before dying in a tragic accident last week.

On Friday, the girl ran outside as Hansen was leaving his home in Green Bay. In a statement released last week, Hansen said neither he nor his wife saw the child run behind the rear of the vehicle as they were leaving the house. Hansen's car backed over the girl, killing her.

Hansen called for a moment of silence and asked members to stand in honor of the girl. A funeral for Elliana was held Monday.
