Senior Open wrapping up first round this morning

July 6, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The first round of the 28th U.S. Senior Open is wrapping up this morning at Whistling Straits with round two to follow.

Argentina's Eduardo Romero fired a 6-under par 66 and entered day two with the clubhouse lead.  A total of 78 golfers had yet to complete their first round after play was suspended last night because of severe weather.

A tough day for 2-time defending champion Allen Doyle.  He's at 7-over par through 13 holes at Whistling Straits.

Of those that finished, a total of only 9 golfers broke par.  A total of 11 golfers are at even par.

Officials estimate a total of 17,000 fans showed up to watch the first day of the tournament on Thursday, bringing the total to 52,000 for the first four days, counting 3-days of practice rounds.
