Big rig truck drivers hauling loads through the state must follow certain rules of rest. They can drive for only so long as a protection for themselves and others on the road. But those rules have been waived for drivers hauling flood relief supplies.
The State Patrol's Lt. Chuck Lorentz says the temporary rules change applies only to drivers involved in flood relief efforts as shown on their shipping papers.
But the Lieutenant says weight limits won't change. It would be good for heavier loads to be allowed into areas where roads and bridges may already be weakened or damaged. Permit fees however will be waived.
Drivers loaded with emergency supplies from out of state will also get a break on registration requirements.
The Governor's order regarding hours of service will remain in effect until September 3rd.
