Former Brewers shuts down his old team

September 21, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The Milwaukee Brewers dropped another 1/2 game in the standings and now trail the first place Chicago Cubs by 1 1/2 games in the National League Central division.

The Brewers fell to the Atlanta Braves 3-1 in their series opener.  Former Brewer Jeff Bennett allowed just 1 run in 5 2/3 innings in his first Major League start.

The only Brewers run came on a Rickie Weeks solo home run.  Prince Fielder went 0 for 3 and saw his 17-game hit streak come to an end.

Bennett pitched in the Brewers bullpen in 2004, but spent time most recently recovering from elbow surgery.  He'd been in the minors until being called up by Atlanta for this start.

The Brewers now face Atlanta's 16-game winner Tim Hudson tonight.  Milwaukee goes with Carlos Villanueva who is 8-4 overall, 2-1 with a 1.50 ERA since being recalled from the minors.
