Janesville GM workers on the picket line

September 24, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The United Auto Workers Union called a strike for ten this morning. The three-thousand UAW workers at the Janesville GM plant are now shut out and walking the picket line.

Reporter Steve Benton reports from outside the Janesville plant where the mood is quiet but determined. The gates are locked so neither the media nor the workers can get into the plant.

The workers Steve Benton spoke with hope the strike won't go on for long but if the strike drags on, it could have an economic ripple effect on the city.

The UAW says it will go back to bargaining table today.

Listen to the MP3 Q & A with Reporter Steve Benton for an on scene description of the strikers' mood in Janesville.
