Smith to miss UW road games

September 5, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Wisconsin Badger sophomore running back Lance Smith will not travel or compete in this season's five regular season away games.

Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez and Dean of Students Lori Berquam made the announcement today.  Smith will miss games at UNLV, Illinois, Penn State, Ohio State and Minnesota as a resolution to the non-academic misconduct case pending against him for a July incident.

Smith was suspended from the team on July 18 for violating the UW Department of Athletics Student Athlete Discipline Policy.  He was re-instated on August 6, and in mid-August was given notice that additional disciplinary action was possible under the policy.  With the Dean of Students office having reached a resolution with Smith, no additional game suspensions will be imposed.

Smith will continue to compete in home games, participate in other team activities, receive traditional student-athlete support services and complete all court, athletic and University mandated restitution.
