Wisconsin voters currently can check a box on general election ballots, so their vote counts for all candidates of one party.
However, State Representative Gary Tauchen (R-Bonduel) says that can create problems if there's a recount. The Bonduel Republican says voters who check the party box and then also vote for candidates outside of that party can leave questions about their intent.
Tauchen is sponsoring a bill that would end the straight party ticket. He says it would minimize the recount opportunity.
Tauchen also hopes getting rid of the practice will encourage voters to be more informed about the candidates. He says voters should be forced to think about their choices during an election.
