Four killed at Superior worksite

November 2, 2007 By WRN Contributor

Investigators from the federal Occupational Health and Safety Adminstration are at the scene of a workplace accident near Superior. Douglas County Sheriff Thomas Dalbec says four men were overcome, apparently by hydrogen sulfide fumes Thursday evening while working to repair a pump inside a manhole at a South Superior landfill.

Dalbec says the first man to enter the manhole was overcome by fumes, and the other three victims died after going in to help. The victims have been identified as brothers, 44 year old Joseph Kimmes and 40 year old Scott Kimmes and 47 year old Harold "Tim" Olson, all of Douglas County, and 41 year old Paul Cossalter of Wrenshall, Minnesota.
