Secretary named for Department of Children and Families

November 28, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The Governor is moving forward with plans to develop a new Department of Children and Families.

The new agency will combine more than 30 services currently handled by the Departments of Health and Family Services and Workforce Development. The Governor has appointed Reggie Bicha as its first Secretary.

Bicha says the new agency will provide the state with an opportunity to coordinate and streamline services, so they can be more effective. He says they hope to use the next several months to look at what other states are doing right, and how that can be adopted by Wisconsin.

The former social worker says the goal of the new department is to improve on what the state is already doing. Bicah says services can be more efficient under the department.

The Governor wants the new department up and running by next July.
