Donating money to help veterans? Get answers first

December 14, 2007 By WRN Contributor

A watchdog group says some charities shortchange the troops. Glen Loyd with Wisconsin Consumer Protection says this latest report is nothing new: several charities which claim to be helping veterans are not. As with any charity, Loyd urges caution towards groups that make unsolicited plays for your money.

Eight veterans charities, including some of the nation's largest, passed on less than a third of the money raised, according to the report from the American Institute of Phlanthropy . In Washington, a commitee of the House of Represenntatives has begun holding hearings on veterans charities.
