Peshtigo will fight for nativity scene

December 12, 2007 By WRN Contributor

The city of Peshtigo is playing a game chicken with Madison's Freedom from Religion Foundation. The foundation has put the city of on warning, and wants a nativity scene removed from a city park. Mayor Tom Strouf thinks the residents support the display. Strouf did agree to personally foot the bill for lighting the nativity scene. He feels many residents want it to stay put, because he says they're a "god fearing" community.

The city council is taking up the matter next month. But Strouf says he's prepared to fight Freedom from Religion in court. Strouf is getting help from the Alliance Defense Fund, which is a group of attorneys that takes on issues like this.
