All eyes on Iowa

January 3, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Iowa caucus goers have the fate of presidential campaigns in their hands tonight. Radio Iowa news director Kay Henderson says there may be no real third place among the field of Democrats. "Some people have argued that winning third place would not be a prize worth having," says Henderson. "I guess we're keeping our eye on that third place, and how far away third is from one and two." Henderson says the Democrat results could be "muddled," if there's not "a clear and convincing winner."

Among the Republican candidates, John McCain may be happy with third place. "McCain is hoping that Huckabee beats Romney here," says Henderson. "If McCain is nipping at the heels of Romney here, he sees that as a win-win scenario for him." Noting a downbeat mood among Iowa Republicans, Henderson predicts GOP turnout may only be half that of Democrats tonight.
