Book highlights regional political problems

January 14, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A new book highlights political dysfunctions across the Great Lakes Region.

The book released by the Midwest Democracy Network examines the political problems of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio. Wisconsin Democracy Campaign executive director says the five state region plays an important role in national politics, and the book shows a wide variety of problems in those states.

McCabe says Midwestern states have dysfunctional political systems, and the Badger state has fallen from grace with them. He says Wisconsin used to be a role model in clean government, but now is mired in corruption and political scandal.

McCabe hopes the book will help motivate the public to push for change. Already, he says efforts such as the new Government Accountability Board could help clean up politics.
