Governor Doyle says he's asking state officials to find ways to save money, as the state faces a big drop in tax revenues.
Speaking in Eau Claire on Friday, the Governor said he doesn't yet know how much the economic slowdown will cost the state, but early estimates are between three and four hundred million dollars. Doyle says it will be a tough time.
The Governor is directing all department heads to look for cost cutting measures, such as freezing new positions, non-essential travel, and expansions.
The Governor says the state could be even worse off, but the $200 million already cut from the latest budget and a $50 million rainy day fund will help.
