Fundraising ban gets hearing

January 11, 2008 By WRN Contributor

A plan to ban fundraising during state budget deliberations gets a Capitol hearing. The bill's author, Port Washington Republican Representative Mark Gottlieb, says poll numbers show voters getting fed up: "the view of Wisconsin residents towards our political institutions, including the legislature, are at all time lows." Gottlieb has amended his bill, to ban fundraising during the budget process by the governor, lieutenant governor, and legislative campaign committees, as well as by individual legislators.

Jay Heck with Common Cause of Wisconsin and Mike McCabe with the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign both testified in favor of the bill at a hearing before the Assembly Committee on Elections and Constitutional Law.
