65th State Individual Wrestling Tournament gets underway today

The 65th WIAA Individual Wrestling Championships get underway today and wrap up with Championship Saturday at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Day 1 today consists of Division 1 preliminaries at 3pm, Division 1 quarterfinals at 5:15pm and Division 2 and 3 preliminaries at 7:15pm.

There are 244 schools represented at this year's individual championships, including 91 from Division 1, 71 from Division 2 and 82 from Division 3.

Arrowhead has qualified the most wrestlers to the field in Division 1 with 10, and Kaukauna and Wausau West are next in line with 8.  Lodi, Luxemburg-Casco, Mosinee, River Valley and Sheboygan Falls have qualified the most wrestlers in Division 2 with six.  Ellsworth, Kewaskum, Neillsville and Valders are next with five qualifiers.  In Division 3, Laconia has the distinction of having the most qualifiers with five.  Cadott, Clear Lake, Kewaunee, Mineral Point and Ozaukee each have four qualifiers.

There are a total of 15 former champions in the tournament field this year and 29 wrestlers enter the tournament with undefeated records.
