A Trempealeau County man faces homicide charges in the traffic death of a young boy.
Authorities say a rural Arcadia man was drunk and driving without a license when his car allegedly hit and killed a five-year-old boy on a sled near Arcadia on January 27th. 50-year-old Robert Kreibich was charged Tuesday with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, hit and run, and driving with a revoked license.
Trempealeau County District Attorney Jeri Marsolek says five-year-old Matthew McKay had slid onto the road and stopped before the car came along at a high speed. Marsolek says there's no evidence Kreibich made any attempt to avoid hitting the boy, and drove off after the accident.
A state lab report shows Kreibich's blood alcohol level was at .284 five hours after the collision. Marsolek says Kreibich has three previous drunk-driving convictions and lost his license in 2004.
The homicide and hit and run charges each carry maximum penalties of 25 years in prison.
