Fighting to keep quotas

February 11, 2008 By WRN Contributor

The Tavern League is fighting legislation on liquor licenses.

A proposal in the state Legislature would repeal existing limits, or quotas, on the number of liquor licenses allowed in an area. Supporters say there are some tourist areas of the state that need more liquor licenses, but they're already at their quota.

Tavern League lobbyist Scott Stenger says if unlimited liquor licenses could be issued, it would diminish the value of existing taverns. He says the system exists for a reason.

Stenger doubts the bill will pass this session.
