A Southwest Wisconsin lawmaker says workers facing layoff at Advance Transformer in Boscobel will get help in paying for job retraining.
State Senator Dale Schultz says because the jobs are being sent to Juarez Mexico, workers will be eligible under the federal trade adjustment act. He says they'll be eligible for benefits that are a real opportunity to maintain where they're at and position them for a better future.
Southwest Tech in Fennimore just completed a study of the effects of the Advance Transformer shutdown in Platteville in 1996. Schultz says the study found people who took advantage of the job retraining felt they're now better off than if Advance Transformer had not closed.
Orientation sessions for workers in Boscobel are set for next Tuesday. A public meeting on the plant closing may be scheduled for next week.
