State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass says an estimated 10 billion dollars in loose change is sitting in homes all across America. This week is being designated as "Roll Out Your Change Week", a kick off to "Wisconsin Saves", statewide initiative of "America Saves". The program encourages saving and people taking control of their financial wellbeing. Sass says every little bit helps, "50 cents a day of loose change can add up to a monthly savings of 15 dollars."
Sass says a 25% of Americans have a credit card that is maxed out. She says by opening a savings account and depositing regularly, people can avoid having to use high-interest credit cards in times of necessity.
Those who enroll in Wisconsin Saves will have access to financial institutions with low or no fee bank accounts, free financial seminars and credit counseling. The website is Americasaves.org .
