Brewers Cut Vargas

March 25, 2008 By WRN Contributor

In a surprising move on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Brewers have cut veteran right hander Claudio Vargas.  In 2007, Vargas was 11-6 with a 5.09 ERA in 29 games (23 starts).  He was 3-1 with a 3.86 ERA in five starts this spring.

With Vargas out of the picture it appears that a pair of young pitchers have won spots in the rotation.  Both Manny Parra and Carlos Villanueva look like they will be in the rotation on opening day.

Brewer lefty Chris Capuano will visit Dr. James Andrews on Wednesday to get a 2nd opinion on his torn ligament in his left throwing elbow.  Dr. Andrews did "Tommy John" surgery on Capuano while he was a minor leaguer in the Arizona farm system in 2002.
