Doyle: Favre "extraordinary athlete, extraordinary man"

March 4, 2008 By WRN Contributor

Governor Jim Doyle praises Brett Favre on news of his retirement from the Packers . The governor says no other professional athlete has been as closely associated with a single state than Brett Favre with Wisconsin, during Favre's remarkable sixteen year career with Wisconsin's favorite team: "I think maybe will still don't even quite appreciate what it means to have, every single Sunday, the best quarterback in the NFL going out and leading the Green Bay Packers."

Doyle says it's always easier to govern when the Packers are winning, and thanks to Favre, they've won more than they've lost. He also praised Brett and Deanna Favre's commitment to charitable causes, much of it outside the eye of the public and the media. Doyle says Favre "has been an extraordinary athlete and an extraordinary man, and we wish him well."
